Clematis Street garage mural painted over after more than a decade

The six-story Clematis Street garage mural is being painted over after years of sun and rain.

01Lead story

The city says maintenance comes first, then a new mural.

The six-story mural on the Clematis Street parking garage — titled *I Lost My Shoe When I Saw You* and painted by Croatian artist Lonac — is being painted over. City officials say the piece had faded and worn after more than a decade of exposure to the elements, and repainting the garage exterior is necessary maintenance. Sybille Canthal, the city's Director of Arts, told WPTV the city fully intends to commission another mural on the garage once the work is done. The Clematis mural was part of a former art tourism initiative that brought internationally known artists to downtown. Other murals around the city have also disappeared in recent years, including pieces on the CityPlace Garage and near Palm Beach Dramaworks.
