Best Places for a Walk

Easy walk and stroll ideas for residents who want fresh air without over-planning.

1. Clematis Street

Walk Clematis east from the library to the waterfront and you've done the city's defining stroll. Restored buildings, fountains at Centennial Square, and a downhill grade that pulls you toward the Intracoastal. Best at golden hour or on a Thursday during Clematis by Night.

2. West Palm Beach Waterfront

The seven-acre park where Clematis meets the Intracoastal. Brick promenade running north-south along Flagler with sunset views straight across to Palm Beach island. Splash pad, event lawn, fishing pier, and the city's best free seat for a sunset.

3. Palm Beach Lake Trail

Cross the Royal Park Bridge for this Palm Beach island walk: the Lake Trail runs along the west side of Palm Beach beside Lake Worth Lagoon, with West Palm's skyline across the water. It is flat, scenic, and worth naming clearly as a Palm Beach walk rather than a West Palm trail.

4. CityPlace (The Square)

The fountain plaza at the heart of the district formerly called Rosemary Square. Open-air walking among restaurants, shops, the Improv, and the iCONIC Theaters. Kids run the fountain, parents grab a drink at the perimeter.

5. Northwood Village

Three blocks of Northwood Road — galleries, murals, independent restaurants, and the kind of slow-walking pace the rest of downtown lost a decade ago. Best on the second Saturday of the month when the Art Walk fills the sidewalks.
