The FAA proposes permanent airspace rules around Mar-a-Lago
The proposed rules cover a one-nautical-mile radius around Mar-a-Lago, from the surface to 2,000 feet above mean sea level, while allowing qualifying airport arrivals, departures and emergency flights to transit the area. They would replace the temporary security restriction scheduled to end October 20. The FAA says the special rules preserve use of the airport’s main commercial runway while addressing Secret Service security needs.
The Town of Palm Beach, Palm Beach County and West Palm Beach are challenging the existing restrictions and related arrival and departure changes in federal court. The governments argue that aircraft shifted over residential and other noise-sensitive areas. The FAA disputes their case. Its analysis identified some reportable noise increases northeast of the airport, but the agency says none met its significance thresholds. According to the Town, the court has not ruled on the merits.
Comments on the proposed permanent rule are due October 2, under docket FAA-2026-10827. The Town of Palm Beach recommends giving specific locations, times and changes in overflights, with documentation where available.
