Fried chicken with a New York pedigree gets its official grand-opening party today, and the airport has swapped its three-letter code. A dollar shuttle is inching toward a start date.
Fuku's West Palm Beach restaurant has been serving at CityPlace since July 16. Today it marks the official grand opening with an all-day celebration, giveaways and local business collaborations. The fried chicken concept grew from an off-menu sandwich at David Chang's Momofuku Noodle Bar, and this is its first Palm Beach County location. Fuku sits at 407 S. Rosemary Ave. and serves its habanero-brined chicken sandwiches, tenders and loaded fries. The celebration gives diners a reason to try the new spot a month after the doors first opened.
The airport's code is DJT now
Palm Beach airport's three-letter code officially changed on Tuesday. Flights that used to show PBI now show DJT, for President Trump International Airport. Nothing about the airport itself moved. The change shows up where the letters do: booking screens, baggage tags, and flight trackers. If an old search for PBI comes up empty, the code is the reason. Travel apps, saved itineraries, and third-party sites tend to update on their own schedule, so both codes will float around for a while. Anyone flying out soon should check that the tag on the bag matches the ticket.
Business tax renewals are due September 30
Business tax license renewal season is open in West Palm Beach, and the city's posted deadline is September 30. The 2026 notice is already live. That covers storefronts, studios, contractors and home-based operations that need a city business tax receipt. There are still six weeks to handle it before the end-of-September rush. Check the city notice tied to your account for the amount and payment instructions. The deadline is the action point: renew before September 30 instead of joining the late-month scramble.
A dollar ride downtown, if the wait times hold
The city plans to open its low-cost transit service in late August or early September. The fixed route runs mini-shuttle buses through downtown for $1 a ride. There is also an on-demand option, hailed like an Uber, for $2. Wait times are required to be no longer than 15 minutes, and that number is the whole ballgame. A $2 ride that actually shows up changes the parking math for dinner, for work, and for anyone hopping between downtown and the waterfront. Short-hop transit lives or dies on reliability, not price. The 15-minute standard is the promise to hold the city to.
Project Tango comes back around
PBA Holdings is appealing the Palm Beach County Commission's rejection of its Project Tango data-center rezoning request. The appeal means the proposal is not finished even after the commission vote. The applicant is challenging the county's decision instead of walking away. The appeal keeps the land-use fight alive after elected commissioners rejected the change. Supporters and opponents now have a concrete proceeding to follow. No hearing date has been set yet, so there is nothing to put on a calendar. Any notice would come from the county. The next concrete step is the appeal itself, and residents can watch the county for what follows.
Clematis by Night is on tonight
Clematis by Night runs from 6 to 9 tonight at Centennial Square and the Great Lawn. CoverUp is this week's band. The city invites people to bring a lawn chair or blanket for the waterfront concert.
