Commissioners deny Project Tango data center near Arden

Lead story

Palm Beach County commissioners voted on July 15 to deny the Project Tango hyperscale AI data-center proposal, entering the denial without prejudice after a hearing that stretched more than 12 hours. Commissioner Maria G. Marino cast the only vote in favor. The vote turned down the applicant's request for additional approvals at a site near Arden and Saddle View Elementary School. The property already holds approvals for more than 2 million square feet of data-center and warehouse space, and this decision did not undo those existing entitlements. Noise, vibration, water use and environmental impacts were central to the debate, along with the question of whether the project should be classified as light or heavy industrial. Because the denial was entered without prejudice, it does not bar a future application at the site. (WFLX)

Across Florida

Speed-enforcement campaign runs through July 18

Operation Southern Slow Down runs July 13 through July 18, 2026, with Florida taking part alongside Alabama, Georgia, South Carolina and Tennessee. The campaign pairs stepped-up speed enforcement with public-education outreach across the participating states. The Florida Department of Transportation says speeding was a factor in about six percent of the state's traffic fatalities in the 2024 Florida Traffic Crash Facts report. Drivers across Florida can expect a heightened enforcement focus on speeding through the end of the campaign window. (Florida Department of Transportation)

Resource Depot offers low-cost school and art supplies

Resource Depot, a West Palm Beach nonprofit, takes in donated arts and education materials and resells them at reduced prices, with shoppers able to fill a bin with supplies such as pencils, markers and paint for prices starting at $5. Beyond classroom basics, the inventory can include sewing, office, container and packaging materials. Because the stock is built from donations, it rotates over time and specific items vary from one visit to the next. For families and teachers stocking up ahead of the new school year, the reuse center offers a lower-cost option for supplies. (WPTV)

Grease Burger Bar to close on Clematis after July 17

Grease Burger Bar at 213 Clematis Street is scheduled to close permanently after service on Friday, July 17, ending a run on the downtown corridor that began in January 2009. The restaurant announced the closure on July 11 and did not give a reason for the decision. Friday marks the final service day at the Clematis Street location. Its departure leaves another vacancy along the downtown dining strip heading into late summer. (What Now Miami)
